Missed That
I reckon Cliff was demob-happy last week! He gave Gerri Colombe too many points for starters, it should have been 53.25.
One winner slipped through the net too - Impaire Et Passe (Bob, Cliff, Cod, Neil, Peej) took the Grade One Aintree Hurdle by a nose from Bob Olinger and a short head further to Langer Dan in one of the finishes of the season. A controversial one too. Was it just too complicated a decision for the Stewards to make in the end? Fair or not it’s worth 52 points.
Last week’s winners
On Friday we only had Jonbon (Martin, Steve) trouble the scorers, winning by a length and a quarter in the Grade One Melling Chase at Aintree. A display of stamina or just denying two horses that had hard races at Cheltenham? Whatever, it’s 52.1 points.
On Saturday Brighterdaysahead (Bob) made light work of the opposition in the Grade One Mersey Novices Hurdle to notch. Looks to be a good one for next season but it’s certainly 54.4 points this year.
All those points feed in to the…
Aintree Grand Slam
which ended up looking like this…
Bob 159.65
Martin 105.35
Cliff 105.25
Neil 105.25
Steve 52.1
Cod 52
Peej 52
So congratulations (and 20 points) to Bob. It’s three out of the last four for Bob with only my Cheltenham win stopping him from the clean sweep.
What have those points done to the table you ask…
John Torpey Memorial Trophy
April Total
Peej 52 1097.31
Steve 52.1 860.45
Bob 179.65 786.14
Cliff 105.25 705.46
Neil 105.25 650.59
Martin 105.35 647.34
Cod 52 617.77
If I’ve missed anything let me know.
