Trainer Simon West is working back from the RSA Chase with Maximiser ahead of his comeback over hurdles this weekend. The lightly-raced eight-year-old holds entries in the feature £50,000 Grade Two bet365 Long Distance Hurdle (2.10pm, 3m 52y) on Friday, November 25 and the £35,000 bet365 Handicap Hurdle (2.05pm, 2m 4f 118y) the following afternoon.
Maximiser has had just five starts under Rules since finishing eighth behind Faugheen in a Punchestown bumper in May, 2013, and endured another interrupted campaign last season after falling in the G2 Fuller's London Pride Novices' Chase at the 2015 bet365 Festival. His only subsequent outing came when going down by a short-neck in a Listed hurdle at Auteuil, France, in March.West, who trains in North Yorkshire, said: "Maximiser worked this morning and now we are just keeping an eye on the weather."If the ground stays as it is, we would be very tempted to go for the bet365 Long Distance Hurdle on Friday, but if it gets very testing we would be leaning more towards the handicap. It is his first run of the season and I don't want to bottom him.

Thistlecrack is the star name among nine entries for the bet365 Novices' Chase at Newbury on Saturday.

Last year's winner Smad Place will head a field of 20 in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on Saturday Alan King's grey spread-eagled the opposition 12 months ago but will find life tougher with 11lb more on his back

A 44-strong entry  has been revealed for the £100,000 Caspian Caviar Gold Cup, which takes place at Cheltenham on Saturday, December 10, day two of The International. One horse with the Grade Three handicap chase, which is run over two miles, four furlongs and 166 yards, firmly in his sights in Aloomomo (Warren Greatrex).

Ben Pauling does not expect to know how long Barters Hill will be on the sidelines for until a couple of weeks have elapsed. "He's fine, he had a good night but he's a bit sore," said Pauling. "He's in no real discomfort as he's on pain killers, he's as well as can be expected I suppose.
"There's been no miracle cure overnight but on the other hand there's been no major setback.
"We'll only know how long he will be out for in the next few weeks I imagine."

Top[ class novice hurdler who has only been beaten twice in his career, he made his debut at Toomebridge in a 3m ,4y maiden point in November 2014, where he un seated his rider. He made amends a month later at Tattersall Farm in a similar event wining by 2 ½ l from Allenstown Kid. He made his debut under rules in March last year, winning a 2m 2f bumper by 2 ¾ l from Pause and Ponder, and followed up at Punchestown in April over 2m beating Ok Corral 2 ½ l . Highly regarded he was put away for the winter, and made a winning reappearance at Punchestown in December, beating Road to Respect 8 ½ l in a 2m 4f maiden hurdle, then followed up at Sandown in January, beating O O Seven 2 ¼ l in the grade 1 , 2m novice hurdle. He then won the grade 1, 2m 5f Neptune Novice hurdle at the Cheltenham festival, beating Yanworth 1 3/4 l, followed up at  Aintree, taking the 2m 4f grade 1 Mersey novice hurdle by 2 ¼ l from Le Prezien, then was probably over the top when 4th at Punchestown in the 2m Champion Novice hurdle, beaten 12 ½ l behind Don’t Touch it.

He goes novice chasing and is an exciting prospect and Patrick Mullins is very bullish about his Arkle chances.

Something of a rarity as he is an ex English pointer, he ran in 7 points, winning once at Larkhill in January this year, beating Dunns River a distance, he was also runner on 4 occasions. Harry Fry says when he arrived they were not sure what to expect, but he made a winning debut under rules at Exeter in April, winning by 15 l from Say My Name, then followed up under a penalty at Uttoxeter in May beating Holbrook Park 13l. Apparently the owner is keen to go chasing, but what ever route he takes he is considered an exciting prospect by Harry Fry.
