Trainer Simon West is working back from the RSA Chase with Maximiser ahead of his comeback over hurdles this weekend. The lightly-raced eight-year-old holds entries in the feature £50,000 Grade Two bet365 Long Distance Hurdle (2.10pm, 3m 52y) on Friday, November 25 and the £35,000 bet365 Handicap Hurdle (2.05pm, 2m 4f 118y) the following afternoon.
Maximiser has had just five starts under Rules since finishing
eighth behind Faugheen in a Punchestown bumper in May, 2013, and endured
another interrupted campaign last season after falling in the G2 Fuller's
London Pride Novices' Chase at the 2015 bet365 Festival. His only subsequent
outing came when going down by a short-neck in a Listed hurdle at Auteuil,
France, in March.West, who trains in North Yorkshire, said: "Maximiser
worked this morning and now we are just keeping an eye on the weather."If
the ground stays as it is, we would be very tempted to go for the bet365 Long
Distance Hurdle on Friday, but if it gets very testing we would be leaning more
towards the handicap. It is his first run of the season and I don't want to
bottom him.
Thistlecrack is the star name among nine
entries for the bet365 Novices' Chase at Newbury on Saturday.
Last year's winner Smad Place will head a field of 20 in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on
Saturday Alan King's grey spread-eagled the
opposition 12 months ago but will find life tougher with 11lb more on his back
Connections of Valseur Lido are leaning towards the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown as his
Christmas target.
A 44-strong entry
has been revealed for the £100,000 Caspian Caviar Gold Cup, which takes
place at Cheltenham on Saturday, December 10, day two of The International. One horse with the Grade Three
handicap chase, which is run over two miles, four furlongs and 166
yards, firmly in his sights in Aloomomo (Warren Greatrex).
The six-year-old showed
highly-progressive form last season, with victories at Warwick and in a valuable
handicap chase at Newbury
