Frankie Dettori will ride Piz Badile in next month’s Cazoo Derby, Alan Cooper, racing manager to owners the Niarchos family, has told the Racing Post. Piz Badile, a general 10-1 shot for the June 4 Classic, has been ridden by Gavin Ryan on his first three starts, but connections have moved early to secure the services of two-time Derby winner Dettori. Cooper said: "Piz Badile will be ridden by Frankie Dettori in the Derby and we're all looking forward to June 4."
Last year's Nunthorpe Stakes heroine Winter Power will begin her new campaign on Saturday after her trainer Tim Easterby confirmed she will make her highly anticipated return in the Temple Stakes (3.45) at Haydock. He told The Punter, "Winter Power has been in great form and wintered well. All being well she runs at Haydock on Saturday and that's the plan to get her going again for the season."
Inspiral will miss the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh and Coral Heron Stakes at Sandown this week, with connections now targeting the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
