. Charlie Hills is counting down the days until Royal Ascot with his Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Phoenix Of Spain.
The Lope De Vega colt made his belated reappearance in last month's Curragh Classic - and produced a hugely impressive front-running display under Jamie Spencer to comfortably see off his old foe Too Darn Hot. A rematch is on the cards in the St James's Palace Stakes on June 18, and Hills is relishing the challenge. He said: "He seems to have come out of the race really well. He's back in his normal routine now and he's eating well, so we're looking forward to the Tuesday of Ascot.
"We were obviously delighted with him at the Curragh. He was going away from them at the end, and galloped right through the line.
. Ralph Beckett will consider an appearance at Royal Ascot for Manuela De Vega following her fine effort in the Investec Oaks at Epsom . Beckett said: "We were very pleased with her performance. From that draw, we were delighted with her effort. "She's come out of the race very well. We'll look at the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, but we haven't made any firm plans."
John Gosden hopes that by starting Enable's season next month in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown she will be in the best possible position to tackle what promises to be a huge second half of the campaign. The Nathaniel filly had been thought likely to make her eagerly-awaited reappearance at Royal Ascot - but following a piece of work in Newmarket, it was decided, after consultation with Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe and jockey Frankie Dettori, to give her a little longer. Her ultimate aim remains an attempt at an historic third Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victory in Paris in October. Gosden said: "She was having a good blow (after gallop on the Limekilns), and we didn't want to rush to run over a mile and a quarter going down into Swinley Bottom (at Ascot).
"I always wanted to run in the Eclipse myself. I had dropped a hint before and Frankie and I, with Teddy, said we are going to the Eclipse because it would be a much better place to start her out.
"Hopefully then we can go to the King George, York, then hopefully the Arc."
John Oxx is working back from the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown in September with Skitter Scatter, after ruling her out of a trip to Royal Ascot. It subsequently transpired Skitter Scatter had torn a muscle during the Rowley Mile Classic, and Oxx is in no rush to commit to imminent targets. He said: "She's making gradual progress. She's been confined to walking exercise for a month and we're coming to the end of that now, so we'll see how we go from here. We think it (torn muscle) happened about three furlongs out, and she just went backwards then. It's disappointing, but these things happen." Patience is proving key to the filly's recovery.
