In December he followed up over course and distance in a similar event, beating House of Stories (received 7lb), 4 ¾ l then 2 weeks later a Newbury in the 2m 4f grade 1 Challow hurdle, finished 3rd beaten 1 ¾ l behind Captain Teague. In March this year at Cheltenham, he finished 2nd in the 3m grade 1 Albert Bartlett novice hurdle, beaten a head by Stellar Story, and finished the season at Aintree with 2nd in the 3m grade 1 Sefton novice hurdle, beaten 5 ½ l by Dancing City.

He reappeared at Newbury in November last year winning ta 2m 4f grade 2 novice chase by 2l from Masaccio, then followed up at Kempton in December, winning the 3m grade 1 Kauto Star novice chase by 2 ½ l from Hyland. He then sustained an injury in training and missed the rest of the season. Ben Pauling told the Punter: "he has summered well and is in good form. I am not convinced he needs 3 miles and an early season target could be the paddy Power Gold Cup, but he heeds another run over fences to qualify for that so alternatively he will go to Ascot for a grade 2 chase at Ascot a week later. The King George at Christmas will be next before we decide on either the Ryan Air or Gold Cup at Cheltenham."
