It
is a refreshing change to start the season with some top class 2 year old form
to look at, and Too Darn Hot has some of the very best. He made his debut at
Sandown in August, running away with a 1m maiden by 7l from Rowland Ward, and
followed up at the same course over 7f, taking a group 3 by 4l from Arthur Kitt
in September. He then went to Doncaster and took a 7f group 2 by 1 ¾ l from
Phoenix of Spain and finished the season with victory at the highest level,
taking the 7f group 1 Dewhurst stakes at Newmarket by 2 ¾ l from Advertise. He
sets a very high standard and is a worthy favourite for the 2000 guineas, but I
wouldn’t go near the 7/2 he is for the Derby as I wouldn’t trust his stamina
beyond a mile , possibly 1m 2f . He now misses the 2000 guineas through injury,
with the Irish 2000 now a possible starting point, but I am uneasy about his
future.
