It is great when the little people out do the big guns and trainer Patrick Kelly , owner John Phillips and Presenting Percy hit the mark. Willie Mullins will have more entries in the Cheltenham bumper than Percy has stable mates, but that won’t worry them as they aim at all the top class staying chases this season. He has an admirable 50 % career strike rate, and made his debut in January 2016 at Punchestown in a 2m bumper, finishing 2nd  beaten 2 ¼ l by Battleford. He then won a 2m 1f bumper at Ballinrobe in April by 6l from Carrig Cathal, and then was 7th at Punchestown in the grade 1 Champion Bumper, beaten 11 ¾ l by Blow By Blow. 4th on his reappearance in October at Galway in a 2m maiden hurdle, beaten 19 l behind Le Martalin, he then won a similar event over course and distance, beating Canelie 2l, and followed up in a 2m handicap hurdle at Punchestown in November, beating Llancilo Lad (received 6 lb) by 3l. He was then 5th at Leopardstown in a 3m handicap hurdle, and 4th in a similar event at Punchestown in February 2017. He returned to winning ways at Fairyhouse, winning a 2m 4f handicap hurdle, beating That’s A Wrap ( received 2lb ) by 3 ¼ l. then followed up at the Cheltenham Festival, winning the 3m Pertemps handicap hurdle by 3 ¾ l from Barney Dwan ( received 3lb). He finished the season with 6th place at the Punchestown festival, in the 3m grade 1 novice hurdle, beaten 13 ¾ l behind Champagne Classic. He went over fences in October 2017, and started with victory at Galway, taking a 2m 6f Beginners chase by 3l from De Plotting Shed, then was third in a 2m 6f Grade 2 novice chase at Punchestown, beaten 12 ¾ l behind Jury Duty. He was then 2nd to Our Duke in the grade 2 2m 4f Red Mills chase at Gowran Park, and finished the season with victory at the Cheltenham Festival taking the 3m Grade 1 RSA Chase by 7l from Monalee. An exciting young chaser who could reach the very top come March next year
