Rapidly
improving chaser at the fore front of the up surge in Jon Jo O’Neill’s
position. He started life in Ireland a s a pointer, finishing 3rd on
his debut then winning at Kinsale in October 2011, taking a 3m maiden by 15 l
from Keltic Rhythm. He moved across the water after that, making his British
debut at Plumpton in January 2012, finishing 3rd beaten 25l in a 2m
5f novice hurdle behind Aikideau. He then won a 2m 4f maiden hurdle at
Chepstow, beating Pyleigh Lass 2 ¾ l, then was second 4 times in a row in
handicap hurdles.
He resumed
winning ways at the Cheltenham Festival in March 2013, taking the 3m handicap
hurdle by 1 ½ l from Captain Sunshine, then stepped up in class, ran a cracker
to be 3l second to Solwhit at Aintree in the 3m Grade 1 Liverpool hurdle and
finished with a 4th at Punchestown in the 3m Grade 1 hurdle, behind
Quevega. Sent chasing last season,
he started with a 9 ¼ l 3rd to Many Clouds in a 2m 4f Beginners
chase at Carlisle, then was a head 2nd to Hi George in a similar
event at Catterick, and then unseated at Wincanton in December. That seemed to
wake him up as went on an unbeaten run, taking a 2m 3f beginners chase at
Catterick by 4 ½ l from Shotavodka, followed up at Doncaster in February in a
3m novice chase beating Victor Hewgo ¾ l,
then gave 7lb to the highly regarded Ma Filleule in a 3m handicap chase at Cheltenham in
March, and finished the season at Aintree winning the 3m 1f grade 1 novice
chase by 10 l from Don Cossack. He
should make his mark in the top staying races this season.
