6 y bm Malinas- Graces Benefit (Martin)

She then followed up at Market Rasen in February this year, in another 2m mares listed bumper, beating Queens Gamble (gave 4lb), 1l, then in April at Aintree won the 2m1f  grade 2 mares bumper by 9l from Golden Ace.

She reappeared at Huntingdon in November last year, winning a 2m mares novice hurdle by 7 ½ l from Parkin Fine , and followed up at Cheltenham in December in a 2m 1f novice hurdle, beating Beat The Bat (gave 7lb), 2 ¾ l. In January at Doncaster she won a 2m novice hurdle by 7l from Justus (gave 4lb). She was then due o run at Cheltenham in the grade 2 mares novice hurdle, but scoped badly and was put away for the summer. Fergal O’Brien told the Punter she has done well through the summer and could star back at Cheltenham in the Greatwood hurdle. We have not seen the best of her yet.

Her breeding is quite remarkable,  Iain Corrigan and Grainne Dunne, who have only ever owned one broodmare and bred from her one foal, but that was Dysart Enos, a nine-length winner of the Grade 2 Goffs UK Nickel Coin mares’ bumper at Aintree on Thursday. “It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind to be honest,” says Iain, laughing in disbelief. “We don’t even qualify as small breeders. We’ve bred one horse in our lives, and it just happens to be her.”

A fascinating 100-year story lies behind the red and cream silks owned by Sir Francis Brooke, and a new piece of history for the colours could be on the verge of being created by Chianti Classico, as he underlined his major potential with a third victory over hurdles.

The silks originally belonged to Lady Brooke, who trained in Ireland before World War I, when restrictions meant single women were unable to train in their own name, so she adopted the name Mr Silver. She then married and continued to have horses carry the silks until her death in the 1980s and her grandson, who is chairman at Ascot, is delighted they continue to be seen on the race-course.
