At Doncaster in the 7f handicap Gweedore ( Bob), went to post, Prominent, shaken up to lead over 1f out, ridden and edged left inside final furlong, kept on but joined post, dead heat. He gets 23.1 points.

At Newbury in the 1m fillies handicap, Orchid Bloom (Neil), took her chance, Raced centre, led group, led overall over 2f out, went clear over 1f out, pushed out inside final furlong, winning comfortably by 1 ¾ l. She gets 25 points.

John Quinn plans to concentrate on the biggest five-furlong prizes during the second half of the season with Highfield Princess, who he reports to have bounced out of her two Group 1 assignments at Royal Ascot last month in fine form. The six-year-old will get a first taste of the rollercoaster on the Sussex Downs that is Goodwood's five-furlong track in the richly endowed King George Qatar Stakes, having been third over seven furlongs at the Glorious meeting in 2021. 

Last year's Derby winner Desert Crown appeared to take a significant step towards Saturday's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes when he exercised on Sunday morning under champion jockey William Buick, who is in pole position for the enviable mount.

So menacing is the presence of Paddington in Goodwood's Qatar Sussex Stakes that connections of last week's devastating July festival winner Nostrum are favouring a tilt at next month's Prix Jacques le Marois instead.

Ralph Beckett is hoping his prosperous link with Frankie Dettori can yield further success when the jockey returns to the saddle after suspension to ride Lezoo in the Group 3 bet365 Hackwood Stakes (3.00) at Newbury on Saturday. Beckett told the Punter “We had thought about going to the July Cup with her as she came out of Ascot in really good form, but we thought it was best to drop in grade for her next start, so that’s why we’re going on Saturday.”

The best stayer in training is on his way back to the track and could make a sensational return to action in the Irish St Leger on the second day of the Irish Champions Festival at the Curragh in September.

Kyprios is showing Aidan O'Brien all the right signs with the master trainer revealing to the Racing Post that he has returned to training in anticipation of an autumn campaign.

Savethelastdance is on track for the Irish Oaks at the week end, She  has not been seen since being beaten when sent off the odds-on favourite in the Oaks at Epsom, where she didn't look at home on the track or on the fast ground and O'Brien thinks you will see a different filly on Saturday. He said: "Savethelastdance ran her heart out at Epsom and seems to be in good form. It will be different ground at the Curragh compared to what she ran on at Epsom and I think the track is going to suit her a lot better as well. It was always in our heads to go straight to the Irish Oaks after Epsom."

Inspiral is set to take on Paddington in next month's Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood after sailing through her first workout since her narrow comeback defeat at Royal Ascot. The daughter of Frankel, who is 4-1 second-favourite for the mile contest on August 2, enjoyed the freshly harrowed surface of the Al Bahathri Polytrack in Newmarket on Wednesday morning when first up the gallops from the John and Thady Gosden team just after 9.20am.

Emily Upjohn could attempt to repeat the feat of her illustrious predecessor Enable by bidding for victory in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in three weeks’ time after her second-place finish in the Coral-Eclipse. The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is the ultimate aim for Emily Upjohn and John Gosden confirmed she would return to a mile and a half after contesting the 1m2f Eclipse trip for the first time since landing the Musidora 14 months ago. He said: "We know she’s a mile-and-a-half filly. The races we’re looking at are the King George, Yorkshire Oaks and the Arc, those are the big three. We don’t have to run in the King George, but Enable was second in this and then she won it, so older fillies can do it."

Inspiral, red-hot favourite for next Friday's Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes (3.30), will not run in the Group 1 at Newmarket and instead heads to the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. The three-time Group 1 winner suffered a shock defeat when runner-up as the 1-7 favourite last year and had been the 5-4 market leader to avenge that turnover. But connections said on Saturday she would miss the mile contest and wait for the Sussex Stakes on August 2, for which she is the 4-1 second-favourite behind Paddington.

Chris Richardson, managing director for Inspiral's owners Cheveley Park Stud, said: "We didn't want to run Inspiral in the Falmouth Stakes in light of what happened a year ago as it comes pretty quick after Royal Ascot. She's in good shape but we'll head to the Sussex Stakes instead."

White Birch will have a mid-season break after running "a little bit flat" when coming home last of the eight finishers in the Irish Derby at the Curragh on Sunday. The colt was sent off at 6-1 and was viewed by many as the main challenger to the winner Auguste Rodin heading into the Irish Classic.

Derby hero Auguste Rodin will be asked to once again carry the weight of expectation on Sunday when Aidan O'Brien sends him into battle for the Irish equivalent seeking an incredible 100th Classic win in Europe for the trainer."Everything has gone well with Auguste Rodin since Epsom," O'Brien said on Wednesday as he looked forward to the Epsom winner following up at prohibitive odds in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.

Desert Crown has been given the all-clear and is back cantering after a minor setback prevented him from running in last week's Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.
