Well Gents, there isn't one as we have been snowed in across the country for a week , fingers crossed for Cheltenham this weekend , and lets hope it warms up a bit before mid march !

Ok In making a check on some of the less well known in the strings I found that I missed Glen’s Melody (Bob), winning a 2m 4f mares maiden hurdle at Clonmel at the end of December. She won by 6 ½ l ,and gets 22 points.

Last Thursday at Doncaster in the 2m 3f novice chase, Overturn ( John, Neil, Peej, Steve), went to post, made, all, jumped brilliantly when asked, clear from 3 out, eased last 100 yards, winning by 25l, he gets 11.2 points.
At Huntingdon on Friday, My Tent Or Yours ( Martin, Steve), took his chance in the 2m novice hurdle , Held up, took keen hold, headway 5th, led 3 out, clear when went left 2 out and last, winning very easily by 7l. He gets 11.6 points.

At Navan on Sunday Alderswood (John, Peej), took his chance in the 2m 1f beginners chase,
Chased leaders, 4th halfway, ridden to challenge before last, kept on well run-in to lead closing stages winning by 1 ½ l. He gets 13.6 points.
Today at Wincanton in the 3m 3f handicap Chase, Chatreux ( Neil), took his chance Led until 2nd, led 4th, headed when mistake 5th (water), led 6th, headed 9th, led 16th, clear 2 out, went left after last, held on, winning by a neck. He gets 28.2 points.
In the 2m novice hurdle, Shutthefrontdoor (Neil), went to post, Held up in rear, headway after 5th, went 3rd before 2 out, ridden before last, led flat, winning  cosily by ¾ l. He gets 22.2 points.

News

A mouthwatering clash between last season's first and second from Cheltenham's Champion Bumper could be on the cards in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown on February 9.

The Willie Mullins-trained Champagne Fever and John Ferguson's New Year's Eve fought out the finish last March and both have shown promise over hurdles.However, not everything has gone to plan with Champagne Fever who returned a sick horse after his last run which saw him drift in the betting for Cheltenham's novices' hurdles.New Year's Eve has only run the once but ran a perfectly respectable second to the classy River Maigue at Kempton. Ferguson has also entered Whispering Gallery, a top-class horse from the level who won his hurdling debut recently

Another low key week with some very near misses but they don’t count !
We start at Chepstow on Saturday where in the 3m beginners chase Keppols Hill ( Cliff) took his chance, Made all, ridden after 11th, not fluent 2 out, pressed last, stayed on well to forge clear final 100 yards, winning by 2 ¾ l. He gets 23.2 points.
At Wincanton Gervey Chambertain (Bob Neil), went to post in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle, Made virtually all, drew clear from 2 out, very easily, winning by 7l. He gets 11.9 points.

Sadly we report the death of Katchit , aged just 10, from Colic. He featured regularly for some seasons in these columns, and was a Champion Hurdler.

A quiet week with a lot of meetings cancelled but the scoreboard still ticks over as we move in to 2013.
On Saturday at Leopardstown, Hurricane Fly ( Neil, Tony), took his chance in the 2m Grade 1 Istabraq Festival Hurdle, Tracked leader in 2nd, led entering straight, quickened clear before last, winning easily by 7l. He gets 26.3 points.


At Uttoxeter on Monday Shutthefrontdoor ( Neil) went to post in the 2m maiden hurdle, Jumped left at times, prominent, led 4th, clear before last, winning  easily by 16 l. He gets 25.4 points.

Well it’s been a busy week, we start at Ascot on the Friday before Christmas where in the 2m grade 2 novice hurdle Puffin Billy ( Tony), took his chance, In touch, headway 2 out, led on bit after last, soon clear, winning impressively by 5l. He gets 32.8 points.

In the 2m 3f grade 2 , novice chase, Simonsig ( Not Cliff) made his debut, Held up in touch, took keen hold, tracked leaders after 4th, left in 2nd at 7th, led 11th, clear 4 out, winning  unextended, very impressively by 49 l. He gets 16.4 points.
On Boxing Day at Kempton, in the 2m novice hurdle River Maigue ( Bob, Steve), went to post, Mid-division, headway and in touch 5th, led before 2 out, clear last, driven out, winning by 7l. He gets 11.7 points.

In the grade 1 2m Christmas hurdle, Darlan ( Cod, John, Martin, Peej, Steve), took his chance, Tracked leaders in 4th, headway after 3 out, led next, quickened clear approaching last, stayed on well, winning by 4 ½ l. He gets 29.2 points.

In the 3m grade 1 King George V1 chase Long Run ( Bob, John, Martin, Neil, Peej), went to post, Tracked leading pair, joined leader 10th, led next, blundered and headed 12th, ridden to lead again after 3 out, hard pressed after next, headed when not fluent last, rallied to regain lead final strides, winning by a neck. He gets 52.5 points.


Today at Kempton in the grade 2 , 2m novice chase, Simonsig (Not Cliff) made a quick reappearance, Made all, mostly always well clear, jumped left 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th, winning very easily by 35 l. He gets 13.1 points.

In the 2m grade 2 chase Sanctuaire ( Cliff, Cod, Steve, Tony), took his chance, Led, rider lost whip some time after 5th, ridden and headed after 4 out, led again before 2 out, clear approaching last, ran on well, winning by 13l. He gets 22 points.

At Leopardstown in the 2m 1f grade 1 chase Sizing Europe ( Cliff, Tony), took his chance, Led and disputed, led before 2 out, niggled along before last, ridden after last, kept on under pressure, winning by 2 ½ l. He gets 26.2 points.

Ok we start a week back where I missed Charteaux (Neil ) in the 2m 3f novice chase, Tracked leaders, left in clear lead 3 out, eased after last, winning by 40 l. He gets 45.8 points.
On Saturday in the 2m 1f grade 2 hurdle at Cheltenham, Zarkandar ( Bob, Steve, Tony), took his chance, Always prominent, led narrowly before 3rd, headed briefly and driven 2 out, ridden last, held on well under pressure flat, winning by 2l. He gets 27.1 points.


In the 2m 4f grade hurdle Oscar Whiskey ( Martin, Steve, Tony), took his chance, Made all, drew readily clear between last 2, pushed out flat, winning unchallenged by 19l. He gets 16.2 points.


At Navan on Sunday (Boston Bob ( Bob, Cod, John ) took his chance in the 2m 4f beginners chase, Waited with, moderate 2nd from before 4 out (normal 5 out), niggled along to close from before 2 out, gained narrow lead from before last, stayed on well under pressure run-in to hold off renewed effort of runner-up near finish, winning by ½ l . He gets 11.1 points.

We may only have had 2 winners last week end but they were very significant in the scheme of things.
Starting at Sandown on Saturday where in the 2m Grade 1 Tingle Creek chase, Sprinter Sacre (All ) made his seasonal reappearance, Chased clear leader, not fluent 4th, took closer order 4 out, led next, quickened clear before last,  winning unextended, by 15 l in  very impressive  style. He gets 26.4 points.


On Sunday at Punchestown, Flemenstar (Bob, Cod, Martin, Tony) took his chance in the 2m 4f grade 1 John Durkan Memorial chase, Made all, jumped well, quickened clear 2 out, ran on strongly, winning  impressively by 5l. He gets 26.6 points
