The Tiger
had to have a place in this seasons punter following his achievements last
season. Still only 9 , it will be a
shame if he wins the Grand National again and is retired, but also thoroughly
understandable.
He made his debut at Market Rasen in November
2013 winning a 2m Juvenile hurdle by 3 ¼
l from Nonotnow, when trained by Nigel Hawke. He changed owner and trainer after that and
next appeared at Leopardstown in February 2014, finishing 2nd in a
2m grade 1 Juvenile hurdle, beaten 2 ¼ l by Guitar Pete. In March he made his
first Cheltenham Festival appearance, winning the 2m 1f grade 1 Triumph hurdle
by 3 ¼ l from Kentucky Hyden, and finished the season in May at Punchestown
finishing a disappointing 7th, beaten 11 ¾ l behind Abbyssial. He reappeared at Cheltenham in October,
winning a 2m hurdle by ½ l from Calipto (received 8lb), but then had a dismal
run of 9 outings without a win, going through to 31 May 2016. These included
pulled up at Down royal in October 2014, straight after his Cheltenham win over
Calipto, and at Punchestown in April 2016. He was 13 of 16 in the World Hurdle,
finishing 39 l behind Cole Harden, and 14th in a grade 3 handicap hurdle in Aintree,
beaten 36 ½ l by Ubak. He got back on the winning trail at
Ballinrobe in May 2016, winning a 2m 1f Beginners chase by 8l from Buster Dan
Dan, then followed up in June at Kilbeggan, winning a 2m 4f novice chase by 3 ½
l from Valyssa Monterg (received 7lb). He was then beaten in 5 novice chases,
finishing 2nd in 3 at Galway, Listowel and Killarney, also unseating
at Galway and 4th of 6 at Killarney. He returned to winning ways at
Limerick in October 2016, winning the 3m Munster National handicap chase by 7l
from Stellar Nation (received 3lb) then was 3rd weeks alter at
Cheltenham in a 3 m novice chase, beaten 4 ½ by Heron Heights, then was 3rd
at Wexford in a 3m listed chase, beaten 10 ½ l by Bay Of Freedom. He returned
to Cheltenham next in March 2017, winning the 4m National Hunt Challenge cup by
3l from Missed Approach, then was pulled
up behind Our Duke at Fairyhouse in a 3m 5f handicap chase. Reappearing at Wexford in October 2017, in a
2m 7f listed chase he was 1 ½ l second to Genie in A Bottle (received 6lb),
then was pulled up at Clonmel over 2m 6f, then came to Cheltenham for his first
attempt at the Cross country course in December 2017, finishing 5th,
42 l behind Bless The Wings (received 4lb). He returned to Cheltenham in March 2018, and
won the Cross Country chase by 2l from Urgent De Gregaine, then followed up at
Aintree in April, winning his first Grand National by a head from Pleasant
Company (received 2 lb). Reapperaing at Cheltenham
last November he was 5th in the Cross Country chase, beaten 5 ½ l by
Jossies Orders ( received 15 lb), then in February this year , won at Navan
over 2m 5f in a grade 2 hurdle , beating Off You Go 4l, then came back to the Cheltenham festival to land the Cross
Country chase by 22l from Jossies Orders.
He finished on a high, with his 2nd success in the Grand
National at Aintree, winning by 2 ¾ l from Magic of Light (received 8lb), and
is now a true National hunt great.
