2020 Flat - Editor's Introduction

We start this season in strange circumstances, with the major classics being run later than normal due to Corona Virus travel restrictions, and with the first Classics in England , Ireland and France being run closer together it is likely that the winners will be spread out more and we won’t get a really dominant 3 year old.

This could be a very interesting season with Godolphin looking to have their strongest team of 3 year olds for some time. Pinatubo heads the list but Military March, Boccaccio, Earthlight, Victor Ludorum, to name a few, suggest Coolmore will not have it easy this season. Closer to the Editors heart, the Niarchos Family also have a very strong looking team, a number of which are in my string.
Another trainer with a very strong hand, especially of 3 year old fillies is Jessica Harrington, and some group 1 success could easily go her way again this season.

Also we are seeing more older horses remain in training and it is great to see Enable, Stradivarius, Battash, Japan, Defoe, to name just a few back for more. Tony has picked an unraced 2 year old Giorgio Vasari, which is I am sure a first, 2 year olds have always been rare picks but I don’t  recall an untraced one before, and Pinatubo is in all strings, which is also something that has become quite unusual of late. We have 112 different horses, a huge spread, so hopefully plenty of interest to come and a massive 87 are single picks.

Keep safe and sane and hopefully we can meet again soon, and hopefully at Cheltenham in November.

Regards

The Editor
