This is Peej’s Grand National hope as
trainer Ben Pauling has said the horse that as his only target this season. He
has been a late developer, running moderately until getting off the mark at the
11th time of asking when winning a 3m handicap chase at Exeter in March
2015 by 4l from Buddy Love. He has been very consistent since, finishing 2nd
at Haydock a month later in a 2m5f handicap chase, beaten 6l by Hollow Blue
Sky. The saddle broke on his next run at Sandown , but he improved to win at
Newbury last December, taking the Mandarin handicap chase over 3m 1f by ¾ l
from Amidon, and followed up at Kempton in February this year winning another
3m handicap chase by 2 ¼ l from A Good Skin, then ran a solid 3rd at
the Cheltenham festival in the 3m 2f handicap chase, beaten 12 l by Cause of
Causes. Currently rated only 139 he needs to up the weights to get in the
National and the plan is to go for the Beecher chase at Aintree in December.
Given he needs to win wherever he runs next, he will be worth an interest.
