2023/24 Jumps Profile - Dysart Enos

5 y bm Malinas- Graces Benefit (Martin)

Martin does pretty well with his Fergal O’Brien picks and has another nice one here. She made her debut at Ballyragget in March last year, finishing 2nd in a 3m mares maiden point, then moved across the water and made her rules debut at Ludlow in November, winning a 2m open bumper by 8 ½ l from Flight of Freedom. She then followed up at Market Rasen in February this year, in another 2m mares listed bumper, beating Queens Gamble (gave 4lb), 1l, then in April at Aintree won the 2m1f grade 2 mares bumper by 9l from Golden Ace.

Her breeding is quite remarkable,  Iain Corrigan and Grainne Dunne, who have only ever owned one brood-mare and bred from her one foal, but that was Dysart Enos, a nine-length winner of the Grade 2 Goffs UK Nickel Coin mares’ bumper at Aintree on Thursday.

“It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind to be honest,” says Iain, laughing in disbelief. “We don’t even qualify as small breeders. We’ve bred one horse in our lives, and it just happens to be her.” She will be very interesting in novice hurdles this season, and won recently oh her return at Huntingdon, winning a 2m mares novice hurdle by 7 ½ l from Parkin Fine.

He had a wind operation and reappeared at Chepstow in October this year winning a 2m 7f limited novice handicap chase by 4 ¼ l from Pull Again Green, and looks the sort to progress further.

A fascinating 100-year story lies behind the red and cream silks owned by Sir Francis Brooke, and a new piece of history for the colours could be on the verge of being created by Chianti Classico, as he underlined his major potential with a third victory over hurdles.

The silks originally belonged to Lady Brooke, who trained in Ireland before World War I, when restrictions meant single women were unable to train in their own name, so she adopted the name Mr Silver. She then married and continued to have horses carry the silks until her death in the 1980s and her grandson, who is chairman at Ascot, is delighted they continue to be seen on the racecourse.
