Frodon will now head straight to the Cheltenham  Gold Cup, and if he ground is not to soft, he will certainly liven it up.

Al Boum Photo is due out at Tramore on New Years Day

Altior could bid to get back on track in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury in February. Henderson told the Punter "We’ve scoped him – but it has to go to the laboratory, and we will look at it from there,” he said. “We scoped him on Christmas Eve, but it was perfectly clean. Our vet has been closed here – so all our scopes are going to Newmarket, and that takes a bit of time.

“We will probably know a bit more tomorrow. He was very bright and sparky in himself this morning anyway – and so was Epatante (second at 1-5 in Kempton’s Christmas Hurdle). She was very fresh.

Evan Williams will keep Silver Streak fresh and direct the Grade One-winning grey straight to the Unibet Champion Hurdle next.

Nicky Henderson believes Altior is much further forward in his preparation ahead of his seasonal reappearance in Saturday's Betfair Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown than when suffering his only career defeat over hurdles or fences last season. "He's definitely a long, long way ahead of where he was going into Ascot last year because we've had a racecourse gallop at Newbury," Henderson told The Punter  on Tuesday. "He's miles straighter than at Ascot, there's no doubt about that."

With Politolouge, Greaneteen and Rouge Vif in the line up, it promises to be a cracker.

Supporters of leading Ladbrokes Trophy contender Vinndication received a boost on Monday when Kim Bailey confirmed his likely participation in Saturday's historic handicap, but those who fancy stablemate Two For Gold face an anxious few days before the trainer decides if he will line up.

The wait to see Goshen return over hurdles will go on a little longer yet after Gary Moore's stable star was missing from the confirmations for Saturday's Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle.

Champion Hurdle winner Epatante was the star name in Monday's ten-strong entry for the Fighting Fifth and is set to return, Sceau Royal, Silver Streak and Ribble Valley also have entries.

Bristol De Mai will not run again before the Cotswold Chase at the end of January after sealing his third Betfair Chase success.

The Ladbrokes King George VI Chase remains the next objective for Lostintranslation following his disappointing defence of his crown in the Betfair Chase. Speaking on Monday to the Punter, assistant trainer Joe Tizzard said: “He trotted up fine yesterday morning and has just been on the walker again today – there are no signs of any problems.
“Robbie has maintained for a few years now that he wants good ground. Dad and I thought he’d get away with softer ground a bit because he’s a big, strong horse, but it went completely heavy at Haydock on Saturday and he never travelled like he can.
“We shall make sure there is nothing else, but at the moment we’re just putting it down to the ground.”

Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner Shishkin, who could be the latest superstar to emerge from the Seven Barrows talent factory, looks set to start out on the trail taken by stable ace Altior in the beginners' chase at Kempton on Monday.

Aidan Coleman, the rider of top staying hurdler Paisley Park, is set to be the envy of many of his weighing room colleagues after being unveiled as the new partner of Champion Hurdle heroine Epatante, who is due to reappear at Newcastle in the Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle next week.

Evan Williams keeps on saying that Saturday’s Paddy Power Gold Cup was mission accomplished with Coole Cody, but a teasing 6lb rise from the handicapper leaves the door open for a December Gold Cup tilt at the same track. Williams told the Punter, “I’d have been unhappy if he’d gone up more than 6lb, put it that way, a summer jumper, let’s be honest, it would’ve been harsh. I was thinking of going back to novice company where the waters would be calmer, but off 143, it is tempting, perhaps we could roll the dice again in the December Gold Cup. “The prize money in those handicaps is so lucrative, he’ll have an entry anyway. I suppose if we put a good claimer on him he’d be favourite so we’ll have a think. He’s come out of it grand, but we’ve no immediate plans.”

Silver Streak is on track for the Grade One Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle on Saturday November 28. Evan Williams' seven-year-old finished third in the race last year, before finishing runner-up to Epatante in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton and then he signed off his season with a sixth in the Champion Hurdle. He returned at Kempton last month in great style, beating Verdana Blue by six-and-a-half lengths to set himself up for further cracks at top-level glory this campaign.

Williams told the Punter: "He’s grand, he worked this morning and I’m really pleased with him. I’d love to take him to Newcastle [for the Fighting Fifth]. His race at Kempton last time was a lovely starting point, it was just what the doctor ordered after getting beaten in a few of those Grade Ones last year.
He looks really well and that race should suit him, so Newcastle is very much the plan."

Presenting Percy takes on Kemboy  (surprisingly not in any string) today as he aims to builds on his reappearance fourth in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal,

The first participants in the inaugural £1.8 million Racing League have been unveiled, with brothers Joseph and Donnacha O'Brien adding Irish interest to next summer's UK-based team competition.
Created by Championship Horse Racing (CHR), Racing League is a six-week competition in which 12 teams will contest 36 races, each worth £50,000. The first six teams have been announced, with each squad due to be made up of between two to four trainers, three jockeys and 30 horses.

Organisers had previously hinted at having an international element and the O'Brien brothers will represent Ireland. Northern trainers Richard Fahey and Tim Easterby will join forces, while Charlie Fellowes, Hugo Palmer and George Scott form the first Newmarket team.

Wiltshire-based trainers Roger Charlton, Alan King, Martyn Meade and Brian Meehan make up one of the three teams in the south. Andrew Balding and Richard Hannon form another team, while George Baker, David Menuisier, Gary Moore and Amanda Perrett combine for the third.

2020/21 Jumps Issue 1 - News before the off

It is really disappointing we won’t be at Cheltenham, where in the Cross Country chase, Tiger Roll and Easysland are due to clash. We have a number of entries over the weekend, so lets hope for a busy and successful start.

Connections of Lostintranslation expect him to be firing on all cylinders as he tries to defend his Betfair Chase crown on his seasonal return at Haydock. The eight-year-old will have his first start since finishing third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup as he bids to give trainer Colin Tizzard a fifth victory in the Grade One prize on November 21.

Lostintranslation had the benefit of a prep run before his Betfair Chase win last year, but the Tizzard team are confident he can still achieve the same result without a warm-up spin. Joe Tizzard, son and assistant, said: “Lostintranslation is exactly where we want him to be. He has had little away day and a racecourse gallop, and we are happy going there first time out.

Henry de Bromhead is preparing to take the wraps off stable star Honeysuckle, who will bid to defend her Baroneracing.com Hatton’s Grace Hurdle crown at Fairyhouse later this month. The six-year-old is unbeaten in eight starts for De Bromhead so far – counting this race, the Irish Champion Hurdle and the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham on her tally last term. Those three Grade One triumphs took Honeysuckle’s top-level career victories to four and the daughter of Sulamani will be seeking a sixth Fairyhouse win when she contests the November 29 highlight.

Put The Kettle On is set to kick off her campaign in Sunday’s Shloer Chase at Cheltenham.on Sunday. Henry de Bromhead’s six-year-old posted a career-best effort when springing a 16-1 surprise in the Arkle at the Festival in March, adding to a previous success over two miles at Cheltenham’s Open meeting last year. Defi Du Seuil and Sceau Royal also have entries.

2020/21 Jumps - Two that didn't make the list

Good Boy Bobby 7 y bg Flemensfirth – Princess Gaia

I thought this might stay in Bob’s string...

Developing in to a classy chaser, He made a winning debut at Chepstow in November 2017, taking a 2m bumper by a nose from West To The Bridge, then followed up over course and distance in a similar event, beating Gwalia 9l (received 7lb). In February 2018, he was third in a 2m listed bumper at Newbury, beaten 13l by Acey Milan (received 6lb), and finished the season at Wetherby in March, taking another 2m bumper by  3 ¾ l from Manon.

He reappeared at Carlisle last October, winning a 2m 1f novice hurdle by  2l from Weather Front, then in November was 3rd at Ffos Las, in a 2m novice hurdle, beaten 9l by Remastered ( received 6lb). He reappeared at Carlisle in October, in what was probably the best novice chase of the season so far, and was second beaten a head by Brewinupastorm  over 2m. He then won a 2m novice chase at Wetherby, beating Ravenhill Road 2l, and over 2m 4f at Cheltenham in December was 2nd in another  novice chase, beaten 1 ¼ l by Mister Fisher (received 5lb).

In February this year at Sandown he disappointed in the 2m 4f grade 1 novice chase, finishing 4th beaten 22 ½  l by Itchy Feet, We didn’t see him again as Covid stopped the season in March, but he reappeared at Bangor recently, winning a 2m 1f Intermediate chase by 2 ¼ l from Antunes, and with a high winning strike rate, should pick up more points this season

Samcro 8 y ch g Germany – Dun Dun

Given he was a Cheltenham Festival winner last season, I am bit surprised he was not retained by any of the 3(Bob, Steve, Tony) who had him last season.

A horse who has really divided opinion in recent seasons, he is still only 8 and his record of 9 wins from 15 starts, still marls him down as a high class performer.

He made his debut a Monksgrange in April 2016,  in a 3m 4year old maiden point, winning by 1 from Elegant Escape. Moving to Gordon Elliott, he reappeared at Puchestown in November, winning a 2m bumper by 9 ½ l from Arctic Light, then followed up at Navan in a similar event in December, beating Good Thyne Tara (received 1 lb), ½ l. He finished the season at Fairyhouse in April2017, winning a 2m bumper by 17l from Cluan Dara (received 9 lb). Reappearing at Puuchestown in October he won a 2m maiden hurdle by 15 l from Mind’s Eye, then over 2 4f in a grade 3 novice hurdle, beat Jetz 12 l . In February 2018 he won a grade 1 2m hurdle by 5 ½ l from Duc Des Genievres, (received 1 lb), then won the 2m 5f grade 1 Ballymore novice hurdle at the Cheltenham festival by 2 3/43 l from Black Op. His season ended with a fall at Punchestown in the 2m grade 1 Champion hurdle.

The wheels rather came off the following season, reappearing at Down Royal in November 2018, he was second to Bedrock  (received 5lb), over 2m in a grade 2 hurdle, beaten 1 ½ l, then was second at Newcastle in the 2m Grade 1 Fighting Fifth hurdle, beaten 8l by Buveur D’Air, and then was 5th at Leopardstown in a 2m grade 1 hurdle beaten 7 ¾ behind Sharjah.

Off for 307 days, he reappeared at Down Royal in November 2019, winning a  2m 3f Beginners Chase by 17 l from Trappist Monk, then fell at Foryhouse in December in a novice chase won by Fakir Des Oudaries . He was then second to Faugheen in a 2m 3f grade 1 novice chase at Limerick in December beaten 10l, then came to Cheltenham in March, having a wind Operation before hand and won the 2m 4f Grade 1 novice chase by a nose from Melon. Always highly rated he could become a Gold Cup contender this season.

One of the very dark horses, Mr Church is part of the syndicate that owns her. She made her debut at Down Royal in March, finishing 8th in a 2m mares bumper, beaten 83 l behind Delvino (gave 19lb). She reappeared at Mussleburgh recently in another 2m mares bumper, finishing 7th under a sympathetic ride from Brian Hughes, once her chance had gone.

Part owner Mr Church told the punter she had been troublesome in the preliminaries, and Brian Hughes reported after that she is a grand filly, who is unfurnished, will improve with experience and will win races in the future. She will be kept to bumpers for the time being

Looks a smart juvenile hurdler, he made his debut at Compiegne in March this year wining a 2m 3 year old hurdle by 12 l from Yes Indeed. Moving to Gordon Elliott he won a 2m 3year old hurdle at Punchestown in October by 13l from Scholastic (received 12 lb0, then  followed up at Down Royal at the end of the month winning another 2m 3year old hurdle by 20 l from Varna Gold ( received 11 lb).

Trainer Gordon Elliott recently spoke to the punter and said, "He’s three from three over hurdles and only had a hack round to win at Down Royal at the weekend. What I did like is the way he picked up in a few strides off the back of the second last when Jack asked him to quicken." He looks a smart prospect

I have to say the first thing that surprised me when I looked him up is that he is only 9, as he seems to have been around a long time. So having won the Champion Chase last season, he has every chance of defending his crown this time around.

He has been a top class horse over the years, winning 11 and finishing second 7 times in his 26 starts. He had 2 runs in France as a 4 year old, finishing 2nd on his debut in a 2m 1f hurdle, then won at Auteuil in June 2015, winning a 2m 2f 4 year old conditions hurdle by 1 ½ l from Brut Imperial. He moved to Paul Nicholls, and his first season as a novice hurdle saw him fall on his debut at Cheltenham , and his only win from 3 further starts was at Exeter in February 2016, taking a 2m 1f listed novice hurdle by an eye watering 59 l from Trans Express.

Novice chasing saw him come to prominence, winning on his chasing debut at Haydock in November , a 2m 5f novice chase, beating Vintage Clouds 10 l , then followed up at Ascot in another 2m 5f grade 2 novice chase in December, beating Rock The Kasbah 4l. He won once more from 4 more outings, that victory coming at Kempton in February 2017, beating Pain Au Chocolat ( gave 4lb) 11l.

The following season saw him win 4 out of his 6 starts, The Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter, his first Grade 1 chase, the 2m Tingle Creek at Sandown, beating Fox Norton ½ l, the grade 2 , 2m Desert Orchid chase at Kempton and the 2m 4f grade 1 Melling Chase at Aintree, beating Min a neck. The following season saw his only win come on his first start, a 2m 5f grade 2 chase at Ascot beating Charbel ½ l. He was 4th in the King George at Kempton, 4th in the 2m 5f grade1 chase at Ascot, 2nd in the Champion Chase at Cheltenham, beaten 1 ¾ ll by Altior, and 2nd in the 2m 4f grade 1 Melling chase, 20 l behind Min. He only ran 3 times last season, and he saved the best to last with his only being in the Champion Chase at Cheltenham, beating stable mate Dynamite Dollars 9l.

The stayers hurdle division is pretty open, with a few doubts over Paisley Park, but this exciting prospect could stake a claim on it in a similar way to Big Bucks did.  He made his debut at Chepstow in October 2018, winning a 2m bumper by 2 ¼ l from Ask Dillon, then at Cheltenham, a month later was only 7th, beaten 11 ¼ l in a listed bumper, behind Master Debonair. Given a break he reappeared at Newbury in March 2019, winning another 2m bumper, by 6l from Faustinovick (received 2 lb ), and then went to Aintree and won the 2m grade 2 listed bumper by 1l from Thebannerkingrebel.

He reappeared at Chepstow last November, finishing 2nd in a 2m maiden hurdle, 4l behind Silver Hallmark, then disappointed at Ascot in December, finishing last of 4, beaten 15 l behind Master Debonair (gave 3lb). He got back on track at Market Rasen next time, winning a 2m 4f novice hurdle by 3 ¾ l from Hometown Boy(gave 6lb), then finished the season at Kempton in March, winning the grade 3 2m 5f handicap hurdle by 6 ½ l from Sevarano (gave 1lb). 3 y bg Great Pretender – Plaisance  (Neil)

Quite a few punters are now part of syndicates, Neil has an interest in this owners group horse, a way of having a cheap interest as an owner that the editor highly recommends, as the editor has an interest in 5 owners group horses, 4 which have won, and Peej also an interest in at least 1. Tony has also had some interest in an Irish syndicate.

This gelding made his debut at Dieppe in May this year, in a 3 year old 2m conditions hurdle, finishing 3rd beaten 5 ½ l behind Paros. He then opened  his account at Dax winning readily by 3 and half lengths in a 2m 3 year old conditions hurdle, beating Heloi (received 2lb)  He then moved to Nicholls making his British debut at Wincanton where he was beaten at odds on by 14l by another Nicholls runner.

Neil told the Punter  there were excuses that day (he got very wound up before the start and then wouldn’t settle) and while it is unlikely that he will be Triumph class he should be capable of winning a races this season.

6 y bm No Risk At All – Kadjara (Cliff,Steve, Peej)

At the start of the season J.P Mcmanus was no doubt expecting to have the favourite for the Champion hurdle in March, but this mare would not have been the one at the top of the list, but with injury hitting Buveur D’air, and this mare's rapid progression, that is what happened.

She made her debut at Saint Malo in August 2017, finishing 2nd in a 1m 4f 3 year old stakes, beaten a neck by Extra Noire, then in September at Le Lion- D’Angers, won a similar event by 6l from Envirante Passion. In November at Saint- Cloud, she won a 1m 4f Grade 1 by 3l from Eveilduboulay, then had a year off, and moved across the water to Nicky Henderson. She made her English debut at Kempton in November 2018, winning a 2m novice hurdle by 3 1/22 l from Ey Up Rocky, then followed up at Exeter in February last year, taking a 2m 1f novice hurdle by 3 ½ l from Makety (received 6 lb), and finished the season with a disappointing 9th in the mares novice hurdle at the Cheltenham festival, beaten 9 ¼ l behind Elgantine Du Seuil, when 15/ 8 f.

She reappeared at Newbury last November, winning a 2m listed handicap hurdle by 6l from stable mate French Crusader ( received 2lb ) , then in December won the 2m grade 1 Christmas hurdle at Kempton by 5l from Silver Streak. It was a sign of the way the Champion hurdle fell apart that saw her go of 2/1f  in March, but she could only beat what turned up, which she duly did to become the Champion Hurdler, beating Sharjah 3l. She obviously sets the standard for this season, but will face stiff opposition and not least, quite possibly from another mare, the unbeaten Honeysuckle, in what looks an open division.

He made his rules debut at Fairyhouse last December, winning a 2m bumper by 4l from Port Stanley, then followed up 2 weeks later in a 2m listed bumper, beating Midnight Run 4 ¾ l.  He then won at Leopardstown in February, in a 2m grade 2 bumper, beating Meticulous 1 ¼ l and finished the season taking the 2m grade 1 Champion bumper at the Cheltenham Festival, beating Blue Sari ¾ l.

He reappeared at Down Royal last November, winning a 2m maiden hurdle by 6 ½ l from Front View, then in December at Fairyhouse, won the Grade 1 Royal Bond novice hurdle by 1 ½ l from Abacadabras. He then went to Naas in January, winning a 2m4f  Grade 1 hurdle, beating Elixir D’ainay by 3 ½ l, then finished at Cheltenham in March, winning the 2m 5f Grade 1 Ballymore novice hurdle by 4 ¼ l from Easywork.

A final decision wheteher he stays over hurdles or goes chasing ahs yet to be made, but given he was in the 2m 5f novice hurdle last season, I suspect he will go novice chasing, and he remains a really top class performer.
