As another winter
begins we have the problem of Mullins domination in the jump sector. You could
probably easily pick 20 of his and win the competition, and with the Henderson and Nicholls
strings looking under powered at present that dominance is being exaggerated. The Henderson yard looks as though it will be boosted by
the returns of Bobs Worth and Simonsig who both did well against each other at
Aintree recently, and his yard is strongly represented in this competition as a
few see a come back on the cards.
Last year’s Gold Cup
winner Coneygree came from a small yard which was a breath of fresh air and a
fairy tale story, and whilst there are one or two nice sorts coming through
from the novice ranks in England, at present you would be brave to go against
the Mullins battalion in most of the Championship races. Of course they all
have to stay fit and get there, but he has three or 4 options for most races !
One of the confusing
factors in Ireland is the owners Gigginstown Stud and The Ricci’s own most of
the top horses, so keeping their own apart will be some challenge alone.
The competition is
likely to be decided as always by some one finding a couple of stand out single
picks. Once again I hope you
enjoy the read .
Good Luck to all
The Editor.
