We start at Newbury on Saturday where in the 3m novice chase, Smad Place ( Neil), went to post, tracked leader, hit 3rd, challenged 8th, led next, joined from 12th, shaken up when pressed on run to last, narrowly headed approaching last, rallied and quickened to lead again close home, kept on, winning by 2l. He gets 26.2 points


In the grade 2 3m chase, Harry Topper ( Steve), took his chance, tracked leaders, reminders after 6th, went 2nd 9th, led before 4 out on flat, clear from omitted 3rd last, satyed on strongly to win by 25 l. He gets 46.8 points.
At Warwick, in the 2m novice chase, Balder Succes, ( Steve), took his chance, jumped well, disputed lead till went on 5th, shaken up approaching 2 out, ridden out to win by 3 ½ l. He gets 33.4 points.
At  Leopardstown, in the 3m Hennessy Gold Cup, Tidal Bay ( Cod), went to post, waited with, took closer order in 2nd before 7th, not fluent 10th, dropped to rear 3 out, rallied and kept on well from last, staying on to take 2nd, beaten 8 ½ l. He gets 24 points.

Following this esteemed publications on the Cheltenham going on day 1 , William Hill have opened a book on it, with good to soft at 4-5 , and 9/4 that it is softer, which could be the best with 26 days to go and another inch of rain predicted for the next 48 hours alone !

Godsmejudge, Alan King's Crabbie's Grand National hope, will not run this weekend after skipping options at Haydock and Ascot. King told the punter, Godsmejudge is just not quite right so he won't be running this weekend," said King.
"It's nothing serious, and the National is his  main target.
