2022/23 Jumps Profile - Sporting John

Smart novice hurdler  and bumper performer,. he made his debut at Borris House in April this year winning a 3m 4year old maiden point by 2 ½ l from Generation Text. Bought by J.P.Mcmanus for £160,000 , he joined Philip Hobbs, and made a winning reappearance at Exeter in November last year, winning a 2m 1f novice hurdle by 1` ¾ l from Harry Senior. He followed up over course ad distance in December beating Buckhorn George (received 6 lb) 8l, then won a 2m 3 f novice hurdle at Ascot by  6 ½ l from Pipesmoker (received 8lb). He then disappointed at Cheltenham when only 7th in the Ballymore novice hurdle beaten 30 ¼ l Behind Envoi Allen, but was lame after wards. He reappeared in November 2020 in  a Beginners chase at Exeter, finishing 3rd beaten 33 ¼ l behind Fiddlerontheroof, then in February last year won the 2m 4f Grade 1 Scilly Isles novice chase at Sandown by 3 ¼ l from Shan Blue. He then fell at Cheltenham in the 3m grade 1 Brown Advisoary novice chase, and was pulled up at Aintree in April in the 3m 1f grade 1 Mildmay Novice chase behind Chantry House. Back over hurdles last season, he reappeared in November at Cheltenham, winning a 3m listed handicap hurdle by 2 ½ l from Onagatheringstorm (received 16lb), then in December again at Cheltenham, was 4th in a 3m handicap hurdle, beaten 9l behind Kansas City Chief, (received 33lb), then won a Worcester in a 3m 1f handivap hurdle this January, beating The Jam Man (received 8lb) by 3l. Due to run in the Stayers hurdle at the festival, he picked up a small injury. Back in work now, he could switch between hurdles and fences, and should pick up more points this season
