Promising three-year-old Cash is in a race against time to be fit for Qipco British Champions Day – and connections fear he may lose that battle. Though entered in both the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Champion Stakes at Ascot, the David Simcock-trained son of Shamardal could be saved for next year after picking up an injury on his second career start.
Real World is in the frame to make his comeback at either Paris Longchamp or Ascot next month.
Not seen since chasing home Baaeed in both the Lockinge and the Queen Anne Stakes, he was beaten less than two lengths by William Haggas’ superstar in the latter. Last season Real World was unbeaten in four races, progressing from winning the Royal Hunt Cup to landing the Prix Daniel Wildenstein on Arc weekend and it is that race or the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes that have emerged as options.
With Baaeed committed to the Champion Stakes over 10 furlongs, the QEII now has an open look.
"The music has stopped for Stradivarius.”
With those words owner-breeder Bjorn Nielsen called time on one of the most popular and enduring horses of the modern era on Monday. The eight-year-old has been slow to recover from the bruised foot he sustained last month, prompting connections to retire him to stud. Stradivarius now joins the stallion roster at the National Stud in Newmarket after a stellar career that saw him win four Goodwood Cups, three Ascot Gold Cups, three Lonsdale Cups and the Doncaster Cup twice. The homebred chestnut won 20 of his 35 starts over seven seasons for racecourse earnings of £3,458,968.
Stradivarius will be missed in these columns, and has ben a feature longer than many jump horses. Let’s hope he has successful career at stud.
